TOPPINGS TOP 3 DIPS
The
effective use of not only one, but two, celebrities is seen as the
commercial immediately gets the viewer's attention with a chaotic scene
of partying Muppets. After a few seconds of their inimitable antics, the
second celebrity, Jessica Simpson, gets additional attention, as she
quiets the chaos and easily turns the viewer to the product with a box
of Pizza Hut pizza that she's brought for the Muppets. In explaining why
they will love this pizza, she engages the viewer to a new and strong
sales idea: a pizza that's quartered to allow for a variety of four
different toppings. With easy-to-follow dialog, she adds more detail,
such as "one even has green peppers for you, Kermie" -- a
close-up of Kermit shows he's delighted with this news. Close-ups of the
pizza being cut into four squares adds taste appeal. The commercial ends
on a happy, playful note as the camera zooms in on Jessica blowing a
kiss -- ala Marilyn Monroe -- to the Muppets and/or the viewer, and
then cuts to the Pizza Hut box and its four toppings. All-in-all, an
effective use of multiple celebrities, focused on the product, with news
of a strong sales idea that includes variety and taste appeal, and
that's playful and puts the viewer in a positive, receptive mood. The
result was 55% above norm on being liked, and a solid 31% above norm on
purchase intent.
