This commercial has so many strong factors: it uses the
quintessential problem-solution approach, bolstered by not one, but
two, icon celebrities in the truly funny repartee that keeps the
viewers' attention throughout. Yet the star of the commercial remains
the product, the American Express card with which Jerry one-ups
Superman. All of this adds up to a super performance that not only
was 6 times higher on unaided recall than the other commercial
(Jerry's trip home), but also was twice as high in making the viewer
feel that American Express services were excellent or very good, and
43% more effective in improving the opinion towards the company. It
was also a third better in increasing the likelihood of acquiring the
card. Up, up and away - - you can do more with this one, just as the
commercial says.
