Sometimes the product was purposely designed to convey sensual, sexual overtones, as were the phallic-shaped bottles that the Wells, Rich, Green agency designed for Love Cosmetics. Mary Wells Lawrence, founder of the agency, relates in her recent book, “A Big Life (in Advertising)”, page 53, that when Dick Rich first saw the product, he told the designer that he should circumcise them.
